International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW)

It's international Compost Awareness Week

What's so great about composting?

When you compost your food scraps at home, your stopping that waste from ending up in landfill.
Even though food scraps still biodegrade in landfill, when they do they so in a manner that produces methane gas. Methane gas is one of those nasty emissions coming in second place to carbon dioxide. Methane is a pollutant that can hang around in the atmosphere for up to 15 years and causes damage to the ozone layer, environment and eco-systems.

You don't even have to buy a fancy bin, you can use and old rubbish bin or large container, just make sure it has a lid to keep the flies away! And if your a dab hand with some timber, nails and a hammer, have a go at making your own!!

In fact, you don't even have to make your own! You can just pick a spot in the backyard and dig a hole!!

But, whichever way you do it, composting at home is a great way to get free fertiliser for your veggie garden or plants and is a way that you can help the environment by making a few small changes!
