International E-Waste Day (IEWD)

Monday the 14th of October 2019 is International E-Waste Day (IEWD), so gather up all your electronic waste and start responsibly recycling your e-waste today!

It is estimated that 50 million tonnes of e-waste will be generated globally in 2019. Half of this is personal devices such as computers, screens, smartphones, tablets and TVs, with the remainder being larger household appliances and heating and cooling equipment.

Disposing of batteries and other electrical items correctly is very important as some of them can contain heavy metals that can be toxic to the environment when disposed of incorrectly, such as in landfill. These chemicals can start to leak into the ground, contaminating the soil and groundwater.

In Australia…
Bunnings, Aldi and Ikea have launched programs to help dispose of e-waste properly.
Some Bunning's stores may also take larger items, such as TV's, computers, etc.
For recycling large items in Australia you can check

For other regions...
A quick Google search will help you find a local recycler.
